What the timeline reads. And what it doesn’t.

The timeline is opt-in and off by default. Here’s the full story so you can decide.

What we read

Every ~15 seconds while it’s enabled, one thing: the title of your frontmost window plus the app’s name. “Figma — Landing v3”, “Acme contract.docx — Word”. That’s the whole payload.

What we never read or store

• Screenshots. Nothing on screen is captured, ever.
• Keystrokes or clipboard.
• Browser page contents — a tab’s title text only, not the page.
• Anything networked. Blocks live in your local timesheet.db and go nowhere unless you set up your own R2/S3 mirror (then they go to your bucket).

Why macOS shows a scary dialog

Apple requires the “Screen Recording” permission to read window titles, because titles can leak secrets if an app abuses them. The dialog says we want to record your screen; that wording covers the worst-case abuse, not what we do. We read one line of text per 15 seconds and store it in a file you own. Turn the toggle off anytime and capture stops immediately; blocks older than 30 days are pruned automatically.

Turning blocks into entries

Timeline view (⌘6) → pick a date → tick a few blocks → choose a project → Log as entry. They merge into one entry tagged timeline, with the block titles as the note. Delete is always available; nothing auto-bills.
