The loop

Four steps. Everything else in owntime is an optional detour off one of them.

1. Track

Start a timer on the Today screen, or press the global hotkey from any app, or log hours by hand when you forgot. One entry, one project, done.

2. Pick the entries

Go to Time Entries, filter to a client or a date range, and select the entries that are ready to bill. The unbilled count sits in the sidebar so nothing quietly goes missing.

3. Make the invoice

Pick entries, press New invoice. owntime turns them into lines with hours and rates, adds your letterhead, tax and payment terms, and gives you a PDF. The invoice number comes from your own sequence, so it is the same number in every export you ever make.

4. Mark it paid

When the money arrives, record the payment, in part if it came in parts. A paid invoice stops appearing as overdue, and the entries behind it stop being unbilled.

Where expenses fit

Expenses ride along on their own track: log the cost, attach the receipt, mark it billable, and it joins the next invoice for that client.
